Temples &Tofu in Taipei!

When we first arrived in Taipei, the energetic capital of Taiwan, we immediately felt the unique rhythm of the city. Tall buildings stood beside traditional temples, scooters buzzed past quiet alleyways, and cool air was soaked with calming vibes.

Our first morning in Taipei began with a visit to Longshan Temple, one of the city’s most famous spiritual landmarks. As we walked through the ornate entrance, the noise of the city faded away. The temple was filled with beautiful carvings, red pillars, and the gentle glow of lanterns hanging overhead.

Devotees stood quietly with incense in their hands, chanting prayers. The atmosphere felt calm and deeply spiritual. Even as visitors, we felt welcome to observe and take in the peaceful surroundings. Watching locals perform traditional rituals gave us a deeper appreciation of the Buddhist traditions that continue to shape everyday life in Taiwan.

One of the highlights of our trip was discovering Taipei’s incredible vegetarian food scene. Because many people follow Buddhist dietary traditions, vegetarian meals are easy to find and surprisingly creative.

For lunch, we visited ‘Q Square’ a vibrant mall near the main station, with lots of vegan and vegetarian options in the food court. Our meal included a colorful bowl of fresh vegetables, tofu, and grains. It was both delicious and nourishing. At dinner time, we stopped at an Indian restaurant with authentic Punjabi dishes. The relaxed atmosphere and healthy dishes made it a perfect break from sightseeing.

What impressed me most was how natural vegetarian eating felt in Taipei. Whether in restaurants, small cafés, or temple food stalls, plant-based options were everywhere.

Our evenings brought a new adventure as we explored Taipei’s famous night markets. The streets came alive with bright lights, music, and crowds of people enjoying food and shopping. Our first visit was to Shilin Night Market, the largest and most famous night market in the city. Walking through the maze of stalls was exciting and slightly overwhelming—in the best way possible. Vendors sold everything from clothing and souvenirs to endless varieties of street food.

Even as a vegetarian, I found plenty to enjoy. Fresh fruit juices and bubble tea were everywhere, adding to the festive atmosphere. We spent hours wandering from stall to stall, tasting snacks and watching the bustling night scene. As our trip to Taipei came to an end, we realized how special the city truly is. The peaceful moments in ancient temples, the surprising variety of vegetarian food, and the vibrant energy of the night markets all created a memorable experience.

Taipei is a place where spirituality, food culture, and everyday life blend seamlessly. Each day brought a different perspective—quiet reflection in the morning, culinary discoveries in the afternoon, and lively street culture at night.

Looking back, our trip was not just about visiting famous places. It was about experiencing the spirit of Taipei through its temples, its food, and the warmth of the people who call this city home. 🌏🛕🍜
