Discover Coorg: Coffee Plantations and Serene Getaways

Our Trip to Coorg: A Serene Escape into Nature’s Lap

Nestled in the lush hills of Karnataka, Coorg—also known as Kodagu—offered me an unforgettable retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. Known for its coffee plantations, misty landscapes, and tranquil ambiance, Coorg had always been on my travel wishlist. When the opportunity arose for a short break, I knew exactly where I wanted to go.

Arrival in the Scotland of India

The journey to Coorg itself was a visual treat. As we drove from Bengaluru, the landscape gradually transformed from dusty plains to dense forests and rolling hills. The air grew cooler, the sky clearer, and a sense of calm settled in. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the warm hospitality of our homestay hosts, nestled amidst a fragrant coffee estate.

Aromatic Coffee Trails & Plantation Walks

Our first morning began with a guided walk through the coffee plantations. The rich aroma of Arabica beans mixed with the scent of wet earth was intoxicating. I learned how coffee is grown, harvested, and processed—a fascinating process that deepened my appreciation for every cup I’ve ever sipped.

Exploring Abbey Falls & Raja’s Seat

Among the many scenic spots, Abbey Falls stood out. Cascading powerfully amidst lush greenery, it was both soothing and spectacular. Later, we visited Raja’s Seat, a beautiful garden offering panoramic views of the valleys below. As the sun dipped behind the hills, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, I understood why this spot was once the favored retreat of Kodava kings.

Spiritual Sojourn at Namdroling Monastery

One of the most peaceful experiences of the trip was a visit to the Namdroling Monastery in Bylakuppe. The grandeur of the golden statues, the rhythmic chanting of monks, and the serenity that enveloped the monastery left a lasting impression on me.

Flavors of Coorg

No trip to Coorg is complete without tasting its distinct cuisine. From Pandi Curry (Coorgi pork curry) to bamboo shoot dishes and freshly brewed filter coffee, every meal was a celebration of local flavors. The spices were bold, the ingredients fresh, and the hospitality heartfelt.

As we proceeded further to Bangalore, I felt a deep sense of contentment. Coorg had offered not just a vacation, but a soulful experience—one that reconnected me with nature, culture, and inner peace
