Exciting World Premiere Films Unveiled at Toronto International Film Festival 2024

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has unveiled five exciting World Premiere titles as part of its Gala and Special Presentation programs. These films, showcasing a diverse array of stories and talent, promise to captivate audiences both locally and globally this September.

  1. Eden: Directed by Ron Howard, this survival thriller is inspired by true events, exploring the extreme lengths individuals will go to for a better life. Starring Jude Law, Ana de Armas, and Sydney Sweeney, the film promises a gripping narrative set against the backdrop of the Galapagos Islands.
  2. K-POPS: A dramatic comedy influenced by the life of eight-time Grammy Award winner Anderson .Paak, bridging cultural and familial legacies in a Seoul setting.
  3. Shepherds: Adapted from the Canadian novel “D’où viens tu, berger?”, directed by French Canadian auteur Sophie Deraspe. It follows a Montreal advertising executive who makes a dramatic shift to become a shepherd in the picturesque landscapes of France.
  4. Superboys of Malegaon: From director Reema Kagti, this film delves into the life of Nasir Shaikh, an amateur filmmaker from Malegaon, India. It explores the complexities of filmmaking and friendships within a vibrant Bollywood-inspired backdrop.
  5. We Live in Time: Directed by John Crowley, this highly anticipated romance stars Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield. The story unfolds as a chance encounter between two individuals leads to a life-changing journey of love, home-building, and confronting difficult truths in London.

Anita Lee, TIFF’s Chief Programming Officer, expressed her excitement about the lineup, emphasizing its global diversity and thematic breadth. These premieres include a Canada/France co-production, a comedic debut from a renowned musician, a Bollywood narrative, a London-based romance, and a survival thriller helmed by an acclaimed director.
