The City of Brampton is celebrating International Women’s Day and the many achievements and contributions of women and individuals who identify as women who, throughout history, have done so much to make Brampton the livable, compassionate and prosperous city it is today.

Enjoy a night out at The Rose to celebrate International Women’s Day on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Experience an intimate fireside chat and hear from influential women leaders in arts, business, health and public service. Hosted by the Zonta Club of Brampton-Caledon, speakers include Brampton Councillors, Rowena Santos and Navjit Kaur Brar, panelists Dr. Manisha Pahwa Ph.D., Canadian Film Director Kelly Fyffe-Marshall, Chief of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation Claire Sault, Peel Region Commissioner of Health Services Nancy Polsinelli and CEO of Gray Matter Health Marci Gray.

Shop and support women-owned businesses at the vendor marketplace and connect with Brampton-based women’s advocacy and empowerment groups, all while enjoying complimentary refreshments from local women-run Brampton business, Nourish & Fulfill.

Brampton Women Empowerment Network (WEN)
In December 2022, City Council passed a motion moved by Councillors Santos and Brar to establish an employee resource group for empowering women in leadership to identify career developmental and mentorship opportunities available to women and individuals who identify as women in the City and provide a safe space for authentic conversations.  

The Brampton Women Empowerment Network (WEN) is a safe space for women working at the City of Brampton.  The network aims to: 

•      encourage equality and empower women in leadership 
•      identify career developmental and mentorship opportunities 
•      connect members with other staff to build a network 
•      host events and activities 

As part of the motion, the City has drafted a Terms of Reference for Brampton’s Women’s Advisory Committee that includes members of Council and appointed citizens, modeled after examples from Edmonton and Halifax. The City launched the GBA+ training (e-learning) for all people leaders, senior leaders and City Council in the Fall of 2023 to help combat systemic inequalities and demonstrate our commitment to gender equity.

Effective February 9, 2024, the training is available to all City of Brampton employees, including council-related committee members.
